¿What's the BUS FOR WORLD YOUTH?

The Bus for World Youth (BWY) is an extension of the Ship for World Youth (SWY) program. It was proposed by the Peruvian delegation as a Post Program Activity on SWY 21 (2009) with the objective of traveling through Peru with the same spirit as the Ship, but on a Bus.

Ex-PYs from all batches can join us to visit Peru and to reassure their commitment with society and leadership through volunteer work and donations. During 14 days, from December the 28th of 2009 to January the 10th of 2010, we will travel to Lima, Ica, Arequipa, Puno and Cusco doing touristic visits and voluntary activities to help Peruvian communities. Touristic highlights included in the program are Lima city, Titicaca Lake (Puno) and Machu Picchu (Cusco).

UPDATE: We have uploaded a presentation of the Program. Please, take a look here.

Q&A

1.- I would like to know if you provide some help to obtain the visas to Peru (since some countries need a visa to enter the country and sometimes there is no Embassy in your own territory).
The organization committee is taking this point into account and is trying to establish contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to explore if there is any possibility to make the visa procedure easier. There will be more news soon in the blog about this issue.

2.- Is the invitation open to non-PYs?
Even though the program is aimed to be a meeting point for ex-PYs, if the participants want to come with someone else we will welcome those people (as long as they are over 18 years old). The only condition is to share the SWY spirit! However, the ex PYs will have the first priority in case there is a waiting list at the end of the registration process.

3.- What changes did you make in order to reduce the cost?
In terms of the itinerary, we have eliminated two days we were supposed to spend in the Colca Canyon (Arequipa). According to the new program, we will only stay two nights (including New Year’s Eve) and one day in Arequipa city, in which we will have free time. As an optional voluntary activity, we will be able to go to the town of Chalhuanca to deliver a community donation.

Also, we have eliminated the cost of the donations and the volunteer work. Instead of charging that price, we have decided to make campaigns with different institutions in Lima and through SWY-net in order to obtain funds for the donation activities. We hope you can help us with this!
